Look what I ordered on @etsy for my coworker’s birthday! It’s a Pokémon planter 3D printed from PLA plastic! “Polylactide (PLA) is referred to as a ‘bioplastic’ because of its environmentally friendly nature. PLA is a renewable thermoplastic and a polymer. It is ‘processed’ from the starch of plants such as corn, sugar cane and sugar beet, making it environmentally friendly and sustainable. Plastics products may take upto thousand years to degrade while PLA products biodegrade within 3-6 months in a composting system,” (biogreenchoice). If left in a tightly packed landfill with no sunlight or oxygen, PLA could take 100-1,000 years to decompose, so make sure you recycle properly! 3D printing is getting more popular, and the two main material choices are PLA & ABS (example: Lego pieces). Make sure to choose vendors who use PLA or any other recycled plastic as 3D printing ammo!
