Finally treated myself to some hiking boots so I can stop tumbling downhill on gravel whilst protecting my ankles 😋I discovered @nativeshoes back in February when I first began unravelingthreads, and have been drooling over this Apex boot ever since! All the shoes from this Canadian company are @peta approved vegan, or “beast free” as they say! What I love about these shoes (and I’m sure the same goes for the rest), are how lightweight they are and its shock & water resistance. Native Shoes are REACH and CPSIA compliant, are BPA and phthalate free, and do not contain hazardous materials such as formaldehyde. The shoes are made of a material called EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate), which is a better alternative to PVC, because it doesn’t require a plasticizer (makes plastic moldable), therefore making it a non-toxic option. Is it a super sustainable material? I would say no – no plastic material is ever sustainable, but I’m glad we have a safer alternative to PVC, which has jaw-dropping effects on the body (yet is still being used in things such as baby teething toys)! “Every step of the way, Native ensures our production processes are cleaner and greener. We’re proud of our unique, low-emission manufacturing process and our foam-injection molding process produces low waste – we like that too. Our shoes contain no animal by-products and are packaged and shipped using recyclable materials.” Hooray for a socially responsible company with killer shoe taste! Can’t wait to hike my heart out in better gear 🙂
