Ever heard of glycerin soap? Glycerin is a natural by-product of the soap making process, which commercial manufacturers remove to make and sell lotion at low prices. This by-product actually attracts moisture to the skin, thus softening it (and is way gentler than commercial soaps, making it great for those with sensitive or dry skin). In addition, glycerin is great for skin repair (even eczema and psoriasis), removes dead cells, and strengthens skin barriers. Due to its list of benefits, products with glycerin can be a little expensive, which is why most manufacturers remove it when making lotion (more money in their pockets).
